Donor Covers Fees
Updated this week

The Donor Covers Fees feature allows donors to increase their total donation amount to assist in covering the processing fee associated with their donation. This allows the organization to receive the total intended gift amount.

Donor Covers Fees for Nonprofits, Education, Churches, and Ministries

The Donor Covers Fees feature can be managed within the Finance>Payment tab in the Action Page Builder.

When the Donor Covers Fees feature has been enabled by the organization and is utilized by your donors, the fee amount covered by the donor will be made available within the Finance>Transactions tab in your account and within exports.

When the donor has opted to cover the processing fee, the fee will show in gray with a Person icon for easy identification within the Finance>Transactions tab.

The fees covered by the donor will appear as $0.00 when reviewing transactions within the Finance>Entries tab.

Notice: The Donor Covers Fee feature is also available for use with Campaigns. This feature can only be enabled by Anedot staff.

When the feature is enabled for Campaigns, the organization is responsible for covering the flat fee of $.30 per transaction. Donors are only able to cover the percentage portion of the processing fee.

If a refund is issued on a transaction where the donor covered the processing fees, the total amount of the transaction paid by the donor is returned. The organization is then responsible for the total donation amount and fees.

Donor Covers Fees for Political

Before enabling the Donor Covers Fees feature for a Political fundraising account, we recommend consulting with a compliance officer. Utilizing the feature may cause complications regarding reporting and donation limits.

When the feature is enabled and utilized by a donor, the donor's total transaction amount increases to include the processing fee for the donation. The total donation amount processed is exposed to the organization within the Finance>Transactions tab and the export when Action Pages are in use. If you are utilizing Campaigns, please review the disclaimer below:

Anedot does not recommend utilizing the Donor Covers Fee feature for Political organizations when the Campaigns Product is in use. The export will NOT include the data needed for reporting.

If a refund is issued on a transaction where the donor covered the processing fees, the total amount of the transaction paid by the donor is returned. The organization is then responsible for the total donation amount and fees.

Donor Covers Fees and Exports

The Donor Covers Fees data can also be reviewed within the Exports created for your fundraising account.

To determine whether a donor or the organization covered the processing fees, there is a column labeled Donor Covered Fees within the CSV Export. The response within the column will either be True or False.

  • If True, the next column labeled Donor Covered Fee Amount will display the fee amount paid by the donor.

  • If False, the Donor Covered Fee Amount column will have a record of $0 for fees. To locate the fee covered by the organization, you must review the Anedot Fee column included at the beginning of the CSV Export.

When the donor has covered the processing fee for their donation, the total amount paid by the donor will be made available within the Total Donation Amount column. This is the very last column in the export.
